Update on last post: Save paper by printing to PDF instead of printing to paper

I just finished the last post and my colleague pointed out that there is a better method for saving receipts electronically. Using this better method you don’t need to paste your receipts as images and save the images. Additionally with this method the text in the receipt will remain as text, meaning you can select it, copy it, etc.

All you have to do is ‘print the web page as a PDF’. This is very easy. Just download doPDF PDF Converter for free. Install it to your computer. Make sure you have Adobe Reader installed on your computer.

Now to test this method out:

Click File > Print, in your web browser. Now instead of printing to paper, select the doPDF printer option from your selection of printers. Select ‘Print’ and you will be prompted to save the new PDF file to your computer. Save it to the desired destination and optionally upload the file to your SkyDrive, as explained in the previous post.

So, to summarize

  1. Download doPDF (free)
  2. Install doPDF
  3. Make sure you have Adobe Reader (free)
  4. Open the web page displaying the order details
  5. Click File > Print
  6. Change the selected printer to doPDF
  7. Click print
  8. Save the file to your hard drive
  9. Open a SkyDrive account
  10. Upload your receipt to your SkyDrive

You now, no-longer need to print and keep paper receipts.

Extra tip

If you’ve got a scanner you could turn your paper receipts and other documents into electronic documents by scanning and saving them. Then upload them to your SkyDrive. Sit back and enjoy the paper free lifestyle!

Please do not print this page

115 billion sheets of paper are used annually for PC printers.
